// REGULATION EXCERPT — THE FLAVOR OF THE COURSE

“The airplane systems and associated components, considered separately and in relation to other systems, must be designed so that the occurrence of any failure condition which would prevent the continued safe flight and landing of the airplane is extremely improbable… catastrophic failure conditions must not result from a single failure.”

§ 25.1309(b) — Equipment, Systems, and Installations14 CFR, retained as a TAA-recognized code · As amended by Amendment 25-152 (2024)

AC 25.1309-1BARP4761

→ Day 16: You will map this clause to FHA/SSA DAL allocations

Plain-English — Probability Classes

Per failure-condition class guidance (AC 25.1309-1B), severity is priced in probability per flight hour:

  • ≥ 10⁻⁵Probable — anticipated to occur during the life of the fleet
  • 10⁻⁵ – 10⁻⁹Improbable — not expected fleet-wide, may occur per airframe
  • < 10⁻⁹Extremely improbable — so unlikely they need not be foreseen
